1. Introduction

The SimplyDo app for Microsoft Teams is a great way to get your staff involved in your organisation’s innovation activities from right within Teams itself.

This app supports:

  • Challenge discovery;

  • Challenge viewing;

  • Idea creation, edition, and submission;

  • Viewing ideas created by others (subject to challenge settings);

  • Commenting and liking ideas by others (subject to challenge settings).

The app does not:

  • Read or access any of your other Office365 data;

  • Delete any data in your Office365 account;

  • Allow for management of SimplyDo (such as challenge creation or editing) from within the Teams app. These activities must be performed directly through the SimplyDo platform.

2. Installing the application

There are a number of ways for installing the SimplyDo app for Microsoft Teams. This section aims to explain these.

Once installed, the SimplyDo app will be available on all of your devices logged-in to your Teams account.

2.1 Install directly within Teams

SimplyDo has an official publisher-verified app on Microsoft AppSource. As such, the easiest approach is to simply install the SimplyDo app from within Teams itself.

Please note: depending on your organisation’s IT setup, you may not be authorised to add apps to your Team account.

To add the SimplyDo app, first navigate to the “Apps” tab by tapping the button at the bottom-left of your Teams window.

On this screen, you can use the search bar to search for “SimplyDo”.

Tap the “SimplyDo” result, and on the screen that follows, tap the “Add” button to install the app to Teams.

2.2 Upload an app bundle file

If, for any reason, you are unable to install the SimplyDo app via the Teams marketplace, you can manually install the app by uploading a file.

Please note: depending on your organisation’s IT setup, you may not be authorised to add apps to your Team account.

In order to obtain the installation file (.zip), please speak to your account manager.

To install the file, select the “Apps” button at the bottom-left of your Teams window, then go to “Manage your apps” and then tap the “Upload an app” button.

Select the installation file from your computer and on the following screen tap the “Add” button to install the app to Teams.

2.3 Teams Admin: Allow SimplyDo to be installed in your tenant

In some organisations, app policies may disallow users from installing their own apps as described in section 2.1 and 2.2 above. If you are a Teams admin, and you want to be able to allow your users to install SimplyDo, then you can enable it.

To do so, navigate to the Teams Admin dashboard by visiting https://admin.teams.microsoft.com.

On this page, select “Manage apps” (under the “Teams apps” section), search for ‘SimplyDo’ using the search bar, and then select SimplyDo in the result list.

In the following screen, ensure the “Allowed” toggle is switched on.

2.4 Teams Admin: Install SimplyDo for Teams across your tenant

If you are a Teams admin for your organisation, you can configure your tenant to automatically install the SimplyDo app for all users.

To do so, first navigate to the Teams Admin dashboard by visiting https://admin.teams.microsoft.com.

Then navigate to the “Setup policies” tab under the “Teams apps” section. Select a policy from the list (e.g. the “Global” one).

On the page that follows, select “Add apps”. In the sidebar that appears, search for “SimplyDo” and “Add” this.

The SimplyDo app should now show in the list. Click “Save” at the bottom to save your changes to the policy.

3. Pinning the SimplyDo app for Teams

Pinning the SimplyDo app to the app bar allows it to be easily discovered by you and your users, and for quick navigation

3.1 Pinning the app individually

If you have permissions to choose which apps you have pinned to your app bar, you can easily do this from within Teams.

Once the app is installed, open it. Whilst open, right-click the app icon in the app bar, and tap “Pin”.

The app will now be pinned across your devices.

3.2 Teams Admin: Pinning the app for users in your tenant

If you are a Teams Admin for your organisation, you can pin the app automatically for your users.

To do so, first navigate to an organisational policy in the Teams Admin dashboard, as described in section 2.4 above.

In the “Pinned apps” area, tap “Add apps”. In the side bar, search for “SimplyDo” and add this,

SimplyDo will now be shown in the list of pinned app bar apps. Pinned apps can be re-ordered using the re-order icon as shown.

Once happy with the setup, remember to tap “Save” to save your policy.

4. Recommended: Grant admin consent for the app for your tenant

If you are a Teams Admin for your tenant, you can grant “admin consent” for the SimplyDo teams app for your users.

We recommend doing this, since it enables admins to review the permissions requested, and it allows users to get started more easily.

To do so, first navigate to the SimplyDo app in the Teams Admin dashboard as described in section 2.3 above (or simply use this link to go directly there: https://admin.teams.microsoft.com/policies/manage-apps/dbf692fe-35c1-4511-9178-9131e6511712/permission).

Once there, on the “Permissions” tab, tap “Review Permissions…”.

On the dialog that opens, go through the authentication process and finally tap “Accept” to grant the admin consent.
